Coping With Skin Tags in Pregnancy

Pregnancy is a wonderful condition, and a privilege granted only to women. Pregnancy is the fulfilling moment for most women, and involves a lot of hormonal changes which leads to noticeable physical appearance on women. During this period, most women tend to look more beautiful as their hair is fuller and grows faster, and their skin glow.
During pregnancy, there is more blood circulation all round the body as the body produces 50% more blood than normal. This makes the face to glow. But, it is not just glows all the way during pregnancy. There is also the unwanted side of pregnancy; hormone darkening moles and freckles which results in skin tags. Skin tags may turn up in folds of neck, torso, under the breast, eyelids, and under arms.

Skin Tags-What are they?

These are piece of skin hanging out like a stalk. They may be of the same color of your skin or appear slightly darker in color. The length of skin tags may vary from 1.5mm to 4cm. They are common with elderly people as mild tumors. Diabetic patients and overweight people are also prone to this skin defect.
Generally, skin tags do not hurt except if irritated, or become infected or twisted. For pregnant women it is advisable to care about getting rid of skin tags only after delivery of your baby. It is recommended you seek advice from your dermatologist on how best to remove your skin tags.
Here are some of the methods used by dermatologist to get rid of skin tags:

  •      Cauterizing skin tags

  •      Surgically removing tags

  •      Freezing skin tags with liquid nitrogen
  •      Natural cream that is designed to remove skin tags safely and easily.

Skin tags can also be removed at home with the aid of natural plant based skin tags removers or chemical skin tag removers. However, pregnant women are not to use any of these as they can introduce foreign chemical into the bodies of pregnant women.

Coping with skin tags

Here are few ways to help you cope with skin tag during pregnancy;

  •      Keep your body cleansed by washing with unscented mild cleanse.

  •      Wear a hat or use umbrella on sunny days. During pregnancy, the skin is more sensitive and sunlight causes darkening of the moles freckles and skin tags.

  •      Birth with mild warm water. Avoid hot water as this could dry your skin.

  •      Wear loose cotton cloths in hot weather. Hot or warm weather can cause irritation which may increase itching.

  •       Avoid taking drugs without the advice of your physician.
